Bring a touch of country elegance and history to your table with this superb set of 4 dessert plates from the prestigious French manufacture of Sarreguemines.

This iconic model, titled "Épine" (Thorn), is distinguished by its monochrome blue decor on a cream (ivory) earthenware background. The delicate motif depicts flowering wild rose branches intertwined with ribbons, typical of the romantic and naturalistic aesthetic of the late 19th century.

Key Features:

Brand: Sarreguemines (U&C stamp: Utzschneider & Cie).

Model: Épine.

Origin: France (Grand Est).

Style: Country chic / Shabby chic / Art Nouveau.

Technical Characteristics

Material: High-quality fine earthenware.

Color: Blue transfer on a cream background.

Dimensions: Approximately 20 cm in diameter (ideal for desserts, appetizers, or cheese).

Period: Circa 1880 - 1910.

Condition: Very good vintage condition. No chips, no major cracks. The earthenware has a beautiful sheen. Note: As with any old object, slight traces of time (micro-scratches from use or crazing of the glaze) may be present, testifying to their authenticity.

Why choose the "Épine" model?

The "Épine" model is a classic from the U&C Sarreguemines collection. Its fine lines and timeless blue make it a preferred choice for collectors and "Mix & Match" enthusiasts (mixing antique tableware). They pair equally well with modern dinnerware or a rustic linen tablecloth.

History and Dating (Sources)

The stamp on the back "ÉPINE U&C SARREGUEMINES" allows for precise dating of these pieces.

U&C corresponds to the management period of the Utzschneider & Cie family, the golden age of the manufacture.

The floral crest stamp used here is characteristic of late 19th-century productions (around 1880-1900).

Verifiable sources: Archives of the Sarreguemines Earthenware Factory and reasoned catalogs of French pottery brands.

Care Tips

To preserve the beauty of antique earthenware:
