Magnificent and rare pair of vintage ceramic egg cups, made by the famous French ceramist Robert Picault (1919-2000). Trained at the École des Arts Appliqués in Paris, Picault settled in Vallauris in 1945 where he became a major figure and pioneer in the post-war revival of art ceramics (notably alongside Roger Capron at Atelier Callis, and recognized for his ties with Pablo Picasso).
These pieces display the artist's emblematic visual codes: glazed earthenware featuring geometric motifs and characteristic hues obtained through copper oxide (intense greens) and iron oxide (brown accents). Each egg cup presents a unique design with a cup integrated into a pedestal and a wide circular base, combining utility with mid-century modernist aesthetics.
The bottom of the piece bears the artist's authentic "RP" signature.
